The shot was taken from the Monument of the Student Fraternity in Eisenach. To the left, there is the Wartburg Castle, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its medieval architecture and the fact that is was here where Martin Luther translated the Bible into German.

As no tripods were allowed on the balcony of the monument, the gigapixel image was shot handheld with a 300-mm lens.
